TemporalDeixis TemporaldeixisisanessentialcategoryoftimerepresentationintheEnglishlanguage,whichreferstotheuseofgrammaticalmarkerstolocateaneventoractionataspecificpointintime.ThemostcommontemporaldeixismarkersinEnglisharetenseandaspect,whichindicatethetimeanddurationofanaction,respectively.Englishhasthreeprimarytenses(present,past,andfuture)andfouraspects(simple,progressive,perfect,andperfectprogressive),whichallowforawiderangeoftemporaldistinctions.Forexample,thesentence“Iameatingbreakfast”usesthepresentprogressiveaspecttoindicateanongoingaction,whilethesentence“Iwilleatbreakfast”usesthefuturetensetoindicateafutureevent.
