Objectives: TheprimaryobjectiveofthisprojectistodeveloparandomsearchalgorithmthatcanefficientlyallocatewavelengthsandperformstaticroutinginWDMnetworks.Specifically,weaimtodesignanalgorithmthatcan: 1.Minimizethenumberofwavelengthsrequiredforagivennetworktopology. 2.Maximizetheutilizationofwavelengths. 3.Ensurethatnotwowavelengthchannelsinterferewitheachother. 4.Minimizetheblockingprobabilityofincomingtraffic. Methodology: OurapproachinvolvesmodelingtheWDMnetworkasagraph,wherethenodesrepresentthenetworkcomponents,andtheedgesrepresenttheconnectionsbetweenthem.WeusedtheNetworkXlibraryinPythontocreatethegraphandgeneratenetworktopologies.Thealgorithmiterativelysearchesforacandidatesolutionbyrandomlyselectingawavelengthandroutingpathforeachdatapacket.Wethenevaluatetheperformanceofthecandidatesolutionandrepeattheprocessuntilasatisfactorysolutionisfound. Results: Toevaluatetheperformanceofouralgorithm,wesimulatedseveralnetworktopologiesusingtheOptiSystemsoftware.Ourresultsshowthatouralgorithmcanallocatewavelengthsandperformstaticroutingwithgoodefficiency.However,thealgorithm'sperformanceisaffectedbythenetworktopologyandthetrafficload.Weobservedthatthealgorithmtakeslongertoconvergeonnetworkswithhightrafficloadsandmorecomplextopologies. Conclusion: Inthismid-termreport,wehavediscussedtheprogressmadesofarinourstudyofarandomsearchalgorithmforstaticroutingandwavelengthallocationinWDMnetworks.Ourinitial
