Recently,someexpertsclaimedthatusingthedragonasanationalsymbolcouldmakeWesterncountrieshaveanegativeviewofChina.Butaninternetsurveyindicatesthat90%ofChinesepeoplewanttokeepthedragon,andasmoreandmorepeopleareallfamiliarwiththatChinesesymbol,peopleintheWestwouldnodoubtwantChinatokeepthedragonaswell. Thisessayisaimedtoprovethatthereisnoneedatallforourtranslatorstogiveupdragon,thetotemofChinese,onlyforthesakeofcateringtothetasteoftheWest,andastranslators,weshouldpromotesomeregulatorytranslationstrategyaboutdragoninordertorealizethemutualculturalbalancebetweentheWestandChinaaswellastopreservetheChinesecivilization,extensiveandprofound,withatime-honoredhistory,inthelong-run. Themaincontentofthispaperisdividedintofourparts.Firstofall,basedonsomeexamplesintermsofChineseandWesternculture,itisessentialtorealizethemutualculturalbalancebetweentheWestandChina.Secondly,takethevarioustranslationversionsof“TheFourAsiandragon”forexample,whendealingwithsomeissuesconcerningdragon,thereisnoneedforourtranslatorstoavoidtheusageofdragoninordertocaterfortheWesterntaste.Thirdly,discoveringtherecognitionandacceptanceoftheWesttowardChinesedragonandtheunifiedEnglishexpressionfromsomeWesterncountriesandregions,likeWalesforinstance,wecanutilizetheworddragoninfrontof
