POLICY

Allmembersofthefirecrewarerequiredtoundergoregulartraininginthehandlingoffirefightingequipment.

PURPOSE

Tolimitfiredamageandensurethesafetyofallpersonswithinthehotel.

PROCEDURE

GENERAL

Aportablefireextinguisherorahosereelisdesignedtoputoutasmallfire,notabigone.

Ifyoudecidetoattackafirewithaportablefireextinguishermakesure:

·Thefirebrigadehasbeennotified.
·Everyonenotonthefire–fightingcrewhasbeen,orisbeing,evacuated.
·Youhavethecorrectextinguishingmedium.
·Thefireisnotspreading.
·Youhaveawayout.
·Youfightthefirewithyourbacktotheexit.
·Yougetoutfastifyoureffortisfailing.

WHENFIGHTINGAFIRE

·Takeupapositionwhereaccesstothefireisunrestricted,butwhereaquickandsaferetreatispossible.

Crouchingwillhelptheoperatortokeepclearofsmoke,avoidheat,andwillallowacloserapproachtothefire.Alwaysensurethatafireiscompletelyextinguisheandnotliabletore–igniteorcontinuesmoulderinStayalertforre–ignition.

CLASSESANDTYPESSOFFIRE

Thefullrangeoffireclassesandtypesare:

CLASSAOrdinarycombustiblessuchaswood,clothes,rubbish.

CLASSBFlammableliquidssuchaspetrol,oil,paint.

Thereisalsoaspecialtypeoffirethatposesaparticularthreattothefire–fighter,thatis,firesinvolvingliveelectricalequipment.Suchfiresarenotonlyaproblembecauseofthethreatposedbythenotonlyaproblembecauseofthethreatposedbythefire,buttheinvolvementofelectricitycanpresentafurtherlifethreateningsituation.

FiresinvolvingelectricityarereferredtoasType(C)fires.Ofcourse,ifyoucandisconnecttheelectricalsupply,theriskofelectrocutionisremovedandthefireisnolongeratype（C）fire.ThefirecanthenbeconsideredClassAorB.
