Inthispaper,theVlasovapproach,appliedtostaticanalysisofbeamsrestingonelastic foundations,ispresentedasanalternativetotheclassicalWinklermodel.Thisidealization providesmuchmoreinformationonthestressanddeformationwithinsoilmasscomparedtothe well-knownWinklermodel,andithastheimportantadvantageofeliminatingthenecessityof arbitrarilydeterminingthevaluesofthefoundationparameters.Anumericalinvestigationon applyingtheVlasovapproachtothestaticanalysisofbeamsrestingonelasticsupportsisalso presented.Thesolutionsofsampleproblems,obtainedbyusingtheVlasovmodel,arecompared withresultsobtainedonmorecomplexnumericalmodels.
