Haveyoueverplayedjokesonothers,especiallyonAprilFool’sDay?Haveyoueverbeenfooledbyothers?Tellyourstorytoyourpartner.LearningstrategyParagraph1AprilFool’sDayisacelebrationthattakesplaceindifferentcountriesaroundtheworld.IthappensonApril1steveryyearandisadaywhenmanypeopleplaysallkindsoftricksandjokesoneachother.OneAprilFool’sday,areporterinEnglandannouncedthattherewouldbenomorespaghettibecausethespaghettifarmersinItalyhadstoppedgrowingspaghetti.Manypeoplerantotheirlocalsupermarketstobuyasmuchspaghettiastheycould.Bythetimepeoplerealizedthatthestorywasahoax,allofthespaghettiacrossthecountryhadbeensoldout.InanotherfamoustrickaTVshowinEnglandreportedthediscoveryofspecialwater.Theysaidthiswaterwouldhelppeopleloseweightandthatonecustomerhadalreadylostalotofweightinjustfourmonths.Bytheendoftheday,morethan10,000peoplehadphonedtheTVstationtofindouthowtogetthiswater.ManyAprilFool’sjokesmayendupbeingnotveryfunny.AfamousTVstaronceinvitedhisgirlfriendontohisshowonAprilFool’sDay.Heaskedhertomarryhim.Theladywassohappybecauseshereallywantedtogetmarried.However,whenshesaidyes,hereplied,“AprilFool!”Thatlittlejokedidn’thaveaveryhappyending.TheTVstarlosthisgirlfriendandhisshowwascanceled.Oneoftheworld’smostfamoustricks,however,happenedinOctoberratherthaninApril.Inthatmonthin1938,actorOrsonWellesannouncedonhisradioprogramthataliensfromMarshadlandedontheearth.HedescribedwheretheyhadlandedandtoldhowtheyweremovingacrosstheUnitedStates.Wellesmadeitsoundsorealthathundredsofpeoplebelievedthestory,andfearspreadacrossthewholecountry.Bythetimepoliceofficersannouncedthatthestorywasahoax,thousandsofpeoplehadlefttheirhomes.3.WhydidthesupermarketsrunoutofspaghettioneAprilFool’sDay?BecauseareporterinEnglandannouncedthattherewouldbenomorespaghetti.4.WhatdidtheTVshowsaythespecialwatercoulddo?Theysaidthiswaterwouldhelppeopleloseweight.5.WhydidtheTVstar’sjokehaveabadending?BecausetheTVstarfooledthelady.6.WhendidOrsonWellestellpeopleaboutaliensfromMarslandingontheearth?IthappenedinOctober,1938.7.Whydidsomany
