TheBeatlesTheimpactoftheBeatlesuponpopularmusiccannotbeoverstated;theyrevolutionizedthemusicindustryandtouchedthelivesofallwhoheardthemindeepandfundamentalways.LandingontheseshoresonFebruary71964theyliterallystoodtheworldofpopcultureonitsheadsettingthemusicalagendafortheremainderofthedecade.TheBeatles'buoyantmelodiesplayfulpersonalitiesandmop-toppedcharismawerejustthetonicneededbyanationleftreelingbythesenselessassassinationofitsyoungpresidentJohnF.Kennedybarelytwomonthsearlier.Evenadultstypicallygiventoscorningrockandrollasworthless"kid'sstuff"wereforcedtoconcedethattherewassubstanceintheirmusicandquick-wittedclevernessintheirrepartee.WithoutexaggerationtheytransfixedandtransformedtheworldasweknewitusheringinademographicshiftinwhichyouthcultureassertivelytookoverfromitsstodgyEisenhower-eraforbears.ThelongjourneyresultinginthemobscenethatgreetedtheBeatles'arrivalatKennedyAirportbeganinLiverpoolbackin1958.AseriesofgroupsincludingtheQuarrymenandtheJohnnyandtheMoondogsvariouslyincludedLiverpoolnativesJohnLennonPaulMcCartneyandGeorgeHarrison.WitharhythmsectionconsistingofbassistStuSutcliffe(anartstudentwithgreatlooksandscantmusicalability)anddrummerPeteBestthegroupassumedthename"theBeatles."Thegroupbecameafixtureontherough-and-tumblebarsceneinHamburgGermanywheretheirfive-set-a-nightmarathonshelpedmoldthemintoatightperformingunit.Theirearlyrepertoireconsistedofwell-chosenrockandrollandrhythm&bluescoversrunningthegamutfromChuckBerrytoLittleRichard.InApril1961SutcliffeleftandMcCartneyswitchedfromguitartobass.OnthelocalsceneintheirhometownofLiverpoolthegrouplandedalunchtimeresidencyataclubcalledtheCavernwheretheywerediscoveredbyalocalrecordmerchantandentreprene
