EnglishandChinese,aslanguageswithalonghistory,arebothabundantinbasiccolorterms,andalmostallthebasiccolortermscarrytheirownpeculiarconnotationsresultingfromdifferentsocialcultures,historicalprocessesandgeographicconditions.Withthedeepeningofthecross-culturalcommunicationbetweenChinaandthewesternworld,ithasbeenrealizedthatbasiccolortermsformanareainwhichmisunderstandingincross-culturalcommunicationseemsinevitablebecauseofthediversitiesoftheirculturalconnotations.Therefore,acontrastivestudyonculturalconnotationsofbasiccolortermsbetweenEnglishandChineseisofsignificance. Languageisthecarrierandreflectionofculture,andcolortermsisonepartoflanguage.BythecontrastivestudyofculturalconnotationsofbasiccolortermsbetweenEnglishandChinese,wecanknowmoreaboutwhatisgoingoninpeople’smind,intheirlanguageandculture.
