Introduction: Thedevelopmentofeffectiveandefficientmethodsforwastewatertreatmentisanimportantareaofresearch.Onepromisingapproachistheuseofaerobicgranularsludge,whichisaformofbiologicaltreatmenttechnologythatutilizesgranularbiomasswithadiameterof0.5-3mm.Aerobicgranularsludgecanremoveorganicmatter,nitrogen,andphosphorusfromwastewatereffectivelywhileminimizingtheamountofexcesssludgeproducedduringthetreatmentprocess.Oneofthekeychallengesassociatedwiththecultivationofaerobicgranularsludgeisthelongstart-uptimerequiredtoinitiateandstabilizethegranulationprocess.Thischallengehasbeenaddressedthroughtheuseofarapid-stabilizationmethodinasequencingbatchreactor(SBR)withafixed-bedstructure,whichhasbeenshowntoreducethestart-uptimetolessthan40days.Thisreviewsummarizesthelatestresearchonthecultivationofaerobicgranularsludgeusingthismethod. AdvantagesofRapid-StabilizationMethod: Therapid-stabilizationmethodhasseveraladvantagesovertraditionalgranulationmethods.Themethodcanproduceuniformgranuleswithahighsettlingvelocity,whichmakesiteasytoseparatefromthetreatedwastewater.Thefixed-bedstructureoftheSBRallowsforacontinuousflowofwastewaterthroughthereactor,whichenhancesthestabilityofthegranules.Additionally,themethodcanreducethestart-uptimeandislesssensitivetofluctuationsinthewastewatercomposition,makingitmoreversatile.
